Chelsea came to Clover Hill Farm as a one year old mini-filly. She was and is adorable. Unfortunately, her first owners fed her an over abundance of sweet feed each meal and she developed a condition called "Insulin Resistance".
This condition requires her to be fed very little sugar, which is very difficult to accomplish as all foraging plants contain sugar.
We feed Chelsea a special supplement called HEIRO which was developed by a vet for horses, like Chelsea with Insulin Resistance. (They make insulin but do not have the receptors to push it into the blood to combat sugar consumption.) This supplement helps and we feed her a very small amount of some special foods twice a day. During green grass seasons she has to wear a little muzzle to restrict how much grass she can obtain to eat.
Chelsea roams the farm during the day and sleeps with Pumpkin in their stall at night.
She is so darned cute you will love giving her sugarless treats.
